Stanford University offers an array of rich artistic experiences including paintings, sculpture, photography, music, theatre, dance and speeches.

Cantor Center for Visual Arts

The 27 galleries of the Cantor Center exhibit artwork ranging from Renaissance paintings to African masks. Highlights include works by Jasper Johns and Georgia O'Keeffe, and the museum also offers the largest collection of Auguste Rodin sculptures outside the Musée Rodin in Paris.

Stanford Lively Arts

Lively Arts offers more than 40 performances annually and brings to campus artists who are internationally renowned in music, dance and theater to campus.

Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts

Created in January 2006, the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts (SICA) seeks to foster a culture of creativity throughout the University: integrating the arts more fully into the curriculum, strengthening the arts departments, establishing a rich program of artists-in-residence, creating new interdisciplinary faculty appointments, underwriting faculty and student research projects, coordinating arts events across the University, and developing innovative programs that engage all segments of the Stanford community.

Campus Sculpture

Stanford has an extensive collection of outdoor art throughout campus. Among more than 70 sculptures are works by Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Josef Albers, Alexander Calder, George Segal and Joan Miró. Stone River by Andy Goldsworthy, Miwok by Mark di Suvero and Three Sentinels by Beverly Pepper are among the newest sculptures on campus. The Papua New Guinea Sculpture Garden features the carving methods, cultural traditions and mythological heritage of the Kwoma and Iatmul people of Papua New Guinea. The B. Gerald Cantor Rodin Sculpture Garden contains more than 20 works by Auguste Rodin, including The Gates of Hell. Call (650) 723-4177.

Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery

The Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery, part of the Department of Art & Art History, houses studio art classrooms and offers a rotating exhibit program. It is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, 1 to 5 p.m. Call (650) 723-3404.

Herbert Hoover Memorial Exhibit Pavilion

The Pavilion, located next to Hoover Tower, has changing exhibits. Posters, photos and videos from the Hoover Institution Archives document aspects of modern history. The Pavilion is open free to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., except during exhibit installation and holidays. Call (650) 723-3563.

Academic Departments & Student Groups

The arts community thrives at Stanford with academic divisions in music, drama, art and dance offering classes, lectures, performances and exhibits. Numerous student groups also help the creative arts flourish on campus
